Distraction Burglariescallers

Alert message sent 16/10/2019 09:52:00

Information sent on behalf of West Mids Police

Dear All,

We are currently experiencing a number of "distraction burglaries" or "bogus callers. These are when people who aim to get into homes to distract people in order to steal money or valuables. They generally target the elderly or vulnerable. If you have any elderly relatives, friends or neighbours could you please advise them.

Most people who call at your home are genuine however, some people call with the intention of tricking their way into your property.

Make sure that your doors are locked and if you have a spy hole or window next to your door, have a look to see who is calling.
Use a safety chain if you have one if you do decide to open the door.
Ask to see ID if you are unsure. If they are genuine, they won't mind if you call the company that they claim they are working for.
If they are genuine callers they should be happy to arrange a time when you have somebody with you.
Never give money or bank details to anybody who you are unsure of. If in doubt talk to a family member or neighbour.

For further information [lease call 101 or visit west-midlands.police.uk/saferhomes web site.

Kind Regards
PCSO 30451 Chetwood
Springvale Neighbourhood Team.
