Distraction Burglaries

Alert message sent 02/09/2019 18:27:00

Information sent on behalf of West Mids Police

Good afternoon Citizen

I wanted to bring to your attention a recent message which was put out via wmnow in relation to a recent incident which occurred in the Lyndon and Elmdon areas.  Details about the incident are as below.
“”We have had a report of an attempted distraction burglary, which occurred today just after midday. A male in a white van with ladders on the roof attended the address on Old Lode Lane and convinced a female that she needed work doing on her chimney.
The lady realised that the price was excessive and informed the male she would not be paying that price and would be calling her husband this caused the male make off, no money or items were taken however, the offender was let into her home.

Officers have been in the area today speaking with the lady, local residents and checking for any CCTV footage. (we believe this may be the same group that targeted an elderly female on Lyndon Road the day before).

Please if you have any elderly or vulnerable family members or friends, remind them to be extra vigilant. If work is needed then arrange with a reputable company with good reviews, NEVER get work done by someone knocking your door.

Additionally keep all doors locked or on a chain and do not let anyone into the property who turn up unannounced. For further information on how to prevent this visit the West Midlands Police website on  https://west-midlands.police.uk/your-options/distraction-burglary””

PLEASE BE VIGILANT!!!!!
These males can be quite intimidating and pushy when refused. Do not hesitate to contact the police on 999.

Kind regards,
Jo
