Inconsiderate Parking Hodge Hill

Alert message sent 01/03/2018 12:08:00

Information sent on behalf of West Mids Police

We are continuing to get complaints from residents regarding inconsiderate parking, specifically around the schools in Hodge Hill and outside residents properties.

I have previously sent out information regarding parking legislation which covers parking on pavements, parking on grass verges, blocking driveways and dropped kerbs, causing unnecessary obstructions and leaving a vehicle in a dangerous position.

In terms of school drop off and collection most children live within a mile of their respective primary schools so I see no reason as to why most parents are not walking children to school for 15 minutes (I do this myself) which has the benefit of reducing vehicles driving outside schools, making it safer for children. It also gives children the added benefit of getting some exercise.

If it is absolutely necessary to drive your children to school (if you have to go directly to work or other appointments) then I strongly suggest leaving with enough time to locate a suitable parking space nearby, within a short walk if necessary, which does not cause an obstruction or inconvenience residents by blocking driveways and access to home. If a vehicle is double parked then it causes a safety issue for children crossing the road and access for emergency vehicles. It also inconveniences  other road users. It is not an automatic right to be able to drop a child right outside school gates, Yellow Zig Zags are in place to provide a safe access area for children to enter their school.

There will be enforcement operations across Hodge Hill in the coming weeks, with focus around Heathlands Academy and Colebourne Primary Schools. Traffic contraventions will face fixed penalties and if necessary vehicles will be towed away.
