Bogus Gardener Alert in Dartmouth Avenue

Alert message sent 28/02/2018 10:52:00

Information sent on behalf of West Mids Police

Dear Citizen

A bogus gardener burglary has been reported in Dartmouth Avenue, Walsall, which occurred during Tuesday morning (27 February).

The offender had parked his white van (possibly a Peugeot) on the elderly resident's driveway and knocked on the door, claiming he had been doing some gardening work next door and had to finish off trimming the hedge and that the resident would be liable for the cost.  The offender has gained access to the house and having convinced the victim that he had finish off the work was given £20.  No work was completed.

Please warn your neighbours, particularly any who are elderly or vulnerable, to be on the alert for bogus callers, especially if they claim to be from one of the utilities, the council, police, or claim to be doing building or gardening work.  The attached image gives further advice: it can be printed out to give to you neighbours if you wish.

If you have any information that may assist the investigation please contact the police on 101 quoting crime reference number 20WS/46772F/18 or contact Crimestoppers on 0900 555 111 or at crimestoppers-uk.org.
