Bogus Water Board Burglary Warning

Alert message sent 28/02/2018 10:30:00

Information sent on behalf of West Mids Police

Dear Citizen

Please be on the alert for bogus water board officials following a burglary in Teddesley Street, Walsall, which took place on Saturday afternoon (24 Feb).  Two men claiming to be from the water board called at the elderly resident's home stating there had been an explosion in the street and they needed urgent access.  They were allowed access and one man went into the kitchen and turned on a tap while the other went into another room and began looking around.  On being challenged by the resident the two men have left empty handed.

The men are described as both being white, aged 40 to 50 years and wearing hi-vis jackets.  One of them has either an Irish or a Walsall accent, 5'4" to 5'6" tall, of stocky build with a small black moustache.

Please warn your neighbours, particularly any who are elderly or vulnerable, to be on the alert for bogus callers, especially if they claim to be from one of the utilities, the council, police, or claim to be doing building or gardening work.  The attached image gives further advice: it can be printed out to give to you neighbours if you wish.  Note that the utilities or any other public body will not usually require access to a private home and will normally make an appointment when they do.

If you have any information that may assist the investigation please contact the police on 101 quoting crime reference number 20WS/45877W/18 or contact Crimestoppers on 0900 555 111 or at crimestoppers-uk.org.
